July Recap

It has been a great month of July here at WDYC. All of the staff here are so proud of how hard all of the sailors have been working, the great attitudes, and the improvements in sailing skills we've seen.

Don't forget that this coming Thursday July 31st and Friday August 1st will be Farmer Day! So send your sailor dressed in their flannels, straw hats, jean shorts, etc.

This past Tuesday, 8 of our Opti Sailors traveled to the Hyannis Port Yacht Club for their annual regatta.

West Dennis' Walter Sullivan placed second in the Opti Championship fleet, and Jack Golden also placed second in the Opti Green Fleet.

Be sure to check out the rest of the results at http://www.hpycjs.org/ . All of our sailors performed incredibly well!

Bass River Invitational Results

A fleet of nine Optis and one 420 made their way over to the Bass River Yacht Club yesterday for their Invitational. Although the conditions were not quite as tough as Monday, the sailors still faced heavy winds at the mouth of the Bass River.

On the Opti Green Line, West Dennis Sailor Sophia Peck took 3rd place in her second regatta ever!

Great Job Sophia!

On the Opti Champ Line, Walter Sullivan won the Blue Fleet, taking Second Place overall!

Congratulations Walter!
On the 420 line, Skipper Thomas Cooper and Crew Brian Daley finished first place!

Awesome Job Guys!

Thanks to Bass River for hosting a great event, and thanks to all our sailors who represented WDYC

WDYC Invitational

We had a crazy day on Monday as over 180 sailors came to the club for the annual WDYC Invitational. With winds gusting to 30 knots in the morning, we were forced to postpone then unfortunately cancel the racing for the Opti Championship fleet. However, the 420s were able to get off the beach and get in 3 races for a challenging yet successful day on the water. The Opti Green Fleet was also able to sail 3 races in the river, with our own Josh Dillon Placing 3rd with a total of 14 points!

Not only did all the sailors brave the tough conditions, but WDYC took the top 2 spots in the 420 fleet with skipper Brad Sefarian and crew Caroline Bracken winning the event with a total of 5 points, closely followed by Skipper Thomas Cooper and Crew Brian Daley with a total of 11 points for the day (See Below).

Thomas Cooper and Brian Daley Finish Second in the 420 division

Again we'd like to thank all of the volunteers who came out to help with everything from filling snack bags to catching boats at the beach to running the races on the water. Another special thanks to all the coaches and patrol boats out on the water keeping an eye on the sailors.  We hope to see everyone back next year and in the meantime we'll be hoping for better conditions.

Here are some pictures from the day:
